You could turn off your communicator for the duration, you know. I've also learned that staying within the boundaries of text limits your vulnerability greatly- if your will is strong enough, you can stop yourself before sending it, or if your reflexes are quick enough, you may change to some filter of your preference to avoid baring your soul to the entire ship, as it were.
